Founded in 1970, Lake Catholic High School is a coeducational comprehensive high school with a college preparatory emphasis. Lake Catholic is committed to educating young men and women of diverse means and abilities throughout Northeast Ohio. With a population of roughly 500 students in grades nine through twelve, Lake Catholic High School emphasizes spiritual growth in the Catholic Faith as students learn, work, and serve.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Principal, the primary responsibility of the Director of Mission and Formation is implementing the vision, mission, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church through collaborative faith formation experiences designed to assist the students in becoming disciples of Christ. The Director will evangelize, encourage, discover, and “call forth” the Catholic ministerial talents of all those in the school community – students, staff, faculty, alumni, and families alike, to share in the responsibility of the Catholic formation of the students as a community of faith.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as lead administrator of the Spiritual Life team and Theology department and as a senior member of the school staff to fully implement the school mission and values for all parts of the school community.
  • Be responsible for coordinating all spiritual/religious activities directed at the practice of the faith of the students, such as liturgies, retreats, Catholic Schools Week, and Catholic devotions by planning and scheduling an annual calendar of events to include liturgies, retreats, etc.
  • In keeping with the Diocese of Cleveland’s rich tradition of service, encourage community service and outreach programs for students to put their faith into action as servant leaders.
  • Create a culture of Adult Formation for faculty, staff, families, and alumni by incorporating all aspects of our Catholic faith into our community. Develop “Mission Formations Program” for new faculty/staff, and implement activities that enhance the faith formation of administration, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni.
  • Coordinate with Admissions, Advancement, and Marketing teams to help promote Lake Catholic’s mission and values to prospective and current families, alumni, and friends. 
  • Meet with local grade schools to support their faith formation.
  • Represent Lake Catholic High School at community and diocesan meetings and events.
  • Oversee the regular review of programs and policies.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     
Qualifications
  • A practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church with a deep commitment to and alignment with Catholic teachings, traditions, mission, and values.
  • Familiarity with best practices in Catholic formation and programming. Knowledge of Church documents that guide faith formation and Catholic ministry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in religious studies, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two to three years of experience in Catholic education or pastoral ministry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting deadlines on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Reliable transportation for travel throughout Lake County and surrounding counties.
  • Availability and ability to perform responsibilities during the day as well as nights and weekends as required.

Essential Job Functions
  • As a member of the school faculty, the mathematics instructor will be responsible for teaching 9th-12th grade mathematics classes as assigned by the principal.
  • Implement the curriculum in accordance with the standards set forth by the Diocese of Cleveland and the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Foster a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and critical thinking.
  • Utilize various teaching methodologies to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary approaches to teaching history.
  • Participate in school events, faculty meetings, and other events throughout the year.
  • Maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Provide outstanding and engaging instruction to students.
  • Monitor students and complete other school-related responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
  • Maintain accurate records and effectively communicate progress with students, parents, and school administrators.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (master’s preferred but not required).
  • 7-12 integrated mathematics/mathematics teaching certificate through the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese of Cleveland and Catholic Church.
  • Prior experience teaching similarly aged students is preferred, but not required.
  • Candidate must also be able to pass FBI and BCI background checks and complete the Diocese of Cleveland VIRTUS program.
